HOLLYWOOD actor and Majorcan home owner Michael Douglas this week gave his support to the campaign to save the bluefin tuna from over exploitation and potential extinction.

The campaign is being fronted by Palma Aquarium and already has the full support of the Balearic government, Marviva Foundation and the Monaco government as well as all of the leading global environmental and marine protection organisations.

The most important breeding ground in the world for the blue fin tuna is off the south of the Balearics and Douglas is well aware of the importance of declaring the breeding area a protected zone because of the delicate situation the species is currently facing. As part of the campaign, Palma Aquarium has devised a responsible and sustainable fish and sea food consumer guide which is being published and distributed in Catalan, Castellano, English and German and is full of advice and recommendations on how to buy the 60 species of fish found in Balearic waters.
