STAFF REPORTER THE Balearic Transport ministry may have to back down on the new railway track it wants to build between Sa Pobla and Alcudia after a Central Government recommendation described the route as “dangerous”.

The regional Roads department said yesterday that the Ministry for Public Works in Madrid had stipulated that it is considered a “serious safety risk” for a railway track to run parallel to a main road, which would indeed be the case if the so-called northern route - favoured by the Balearic Transport Ministry - were chosen for construction between Sa Pobla and Alcudia.
