PALMA
THE company behind the Pirates Adventure show in Magalluf has signed a deal with the owner of the Casino de Majorca to rent the Palladium Theatre for a major new tourist production.

Globo Balear, the company behind the multi-million euro Pirates business, will bring a live production to the theatre in the summer of 2009.
In the meantime, the company hope to bring a number of events to the theatre this summer.
Globo Balear is also looking at attracting conventions to the 1'500-seat theatre and have made contact with the convention bureau which is responsible for attracting business tourism to the Island.

Andrew Clemence the CEO of Globo Balear said the company was planning a “major production” for the 2009 summer season that would be geared towards the British, German and Spanish tourist markets.

He said the live production would be a “more, upmarket international product” but would not divulge further details.
The theatre, which is attached to the casino in Magalluf, was for many years home to a successful live cabaret. About five years ago, however, the company that ran the theatre went into liquidation.

The new owners, who had a proven track record running other casinos in Spain, have made limited use of the theatre.
Javier Blasco of the Casino de Majorca, said that the company had spoken with a number of international production companies who were interested in renting the theatre.

However, he added that none matched the pedigree of Globo Balear, who “after 24 years of unrivalled success here in Majorca” had a “deep understanding” of the tourist market coupled with a dynamic and innovative management team.

Clemence said the aim of the company was to put the venue back on the map and bring new business into Calvia and Majorca.
He added that the theatre had been “underutilised” and was one of the “jewels in the crown” in terms of nighttime entertainment in Majorca. “For us it's a diversification,” said Clemence, who is also busy developing a restaurant project with the Pirates brand name in Magalluf, as well as preparing for the new season of Pirates Adventure.
