Palma.—TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, yesterday announced the winners of its 2013 Travellers' Choice Beaches Awards and a number of beaches in the Balearics have made the top ten and 20 at various levels.

Based entirely on feedback from millions of TripAdvisor travelers, 276 winning beaches were named around the world.
Dedicated lists highlight travelers' favorite beaches in Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Middle East, the U.S. and more.
The top ranking beach in Spain is Playa de las Catedrales, Ribadeo, Galicia which came in sixth while Ses Illetas on the island of Formentera was voted the second best beach in Spain, the fourth best in Europe and the 12th best in the world.

Playa de las Catedrales obviously came out as Spain's best beach.
Es Trenc in Campos, once acclaimed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world appears to have slipped down the rankings.
Planning a holiday
This year, it came in as the ninth best beach in Spain but failed to make any of the other rankings. “For those planning their summer vacations, spring break trips, or just looking for a weekend escape from the winter doldrums, take inspiration from TripAdvisor travellers that have visited these beaches and given them the highest levels of praise,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. “These beaches provide some of the finest spots around the globe to enjoy water activities, sun and sand.” “And, of course for those nominated, it is great publicity and also helps travellers make a decision of where exactly to go. “Those planning a beach holiday to Spain and the Balearics, for example, can use these rankings as a guide,” she added.

Tourism authorities in the Balearics welcomed the standings claiming the report will give the region greater exposure on line, which is so important nowadays, and hopefully attract more people to the region.
