Palma.—Yesterday morning the Bishop's Palace in Palma issued a statement announcing that Pere Barcelo Rigo, who was the rector for Can Picafort until 2011, has been expelled from the Catholic Church after having been found guilty of alleged child abuse by the Clerical Court.

What the sentence means is that he will continue to be a priest for the rest of his life, because when priests are ordained it is “for life” but he will never be allowed to practice again.

Pere Barcelo is also apparently being investigated by the civil courts in connection with the alleged abuse of a minor at the end of the 1990s.
There are apparently two other victims.
