Palma.—In the wake of Friday's fatal accident along the road to Cala Pi which claimed the life of a 22-year-year old motorcyclist, the Council of Majorca, which is responsible for roads, yesterday announced that crash barriers are going to erected at the black spots along the dangerous stretch of road.

Only a month ago, a senior member of the Lluchmajor Local Police lost his life in a traffic accident just metres away from Friday's crash and the authorities and local residents believe it is time for action to be taken to improve road safety in the area.

The 60'560 euro contract has already been put out to public tender and out of the 18 companies which bid for the job, Trabajos del Bosque won the contract.

Council of Majorca sources said yesterday that work on fitting the crash barriers will begin next months, straight after the Easter holidays and the project should be completed within the space of a month.

Because the area is considered to be one of natural beauty, crash barriers made of wood and steel, similar to those used in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, are going to be used.
