STAFF REPORTER NEW education centres are opening in both Lloret de Vistalegre and Sineu, the regional education ministry confirmed yesterday. Regional Minister Bartomeu Llinas and Sineu's Mayor, Josep Oliver, have laid the foundation stones of a new school which will provide 450 places. Of these, 150 are for infants and 300 for primary level.

The present school in Sineu, Sa Quintana, can't meet local demand and for several years now there have been portakabins acting as temporary school rooms in the grounds.

The Balearic government will be spending nearly 4'400'000 euros on the project. Taking the new places offered by the Sineu construction programme into account, the present Balearic government has created 14'000 school places during its term of office.

Meanwhile, the ministry for Education has already spent nearly 1'700'000 euros on the major reform of the Antonia Alzina Infant and Primary School in Lloret.

One of its key features has been the creation of a special wing for nursery education for 3-year-olds and under. There will be places for 30 children divided up amongst four classrooms.

Visiting the recently reopened centre yesterday to see the improvements for themselves were Minister Llinas and the President of the Council of Majorca, Francina Armengol.
