Palma.—Since January, the Local Police forces around the island have mounted 92 vehicle inspection controls and over 670 vehicles have been inspected their drivers' documents checked.

This first phase of a yearlong operation has so far centred on the north east of the island, Alcudia, Pollensa, Sa Pobla, Muro and Santa Margalida.
The main objectives have been to make sure that vehicles are fit to be on the road, have passed the ITV (MOT) and that they belong to the driver who has insurance and a valid driving license.

Police are also checking foreign plated cars and as a result, a number of drivers with criminal records have been caught, stolen vehicles have been recovered and banned drivers have also been intercepted as well as those driving without insurance.

Controls will now move elsewhere so be warned.
