Palma.The royal household confirmed yesterday that King Juan Carlos will not be attending Easter Mass at Palma Cathedral this year as he is still recovering from a recent operation.
However, attending the first Easter Mass to be given by the new Bishop of Majorca, Javier Salinas, will be Queen Sofia, who has been on the island with her sister Irene for most of the week, her daughter Princess Elena and Crown Prince Felipe and his wife Princess Letizia and their two daughters.
The Duke and Duchess of Palma, Iñaki Urdangarin and the King's youngest daughter Princess Cristina will not be attending.
Princess Cristina has not attended since 2011 and her husband, who is embroiled in an alleged corruption scandal being investigated here in Palma, has not joined the rest of the royals in Palma for Easter Mass since 2005. See page 7
