STAFF REPORTER LOCAL Police have stepped up their control of vehicles in Calvia, particularly in residential areas. The daily regular spot checks are routine in the run up to and during the busy summer season and the police strategy is to use three marked cars, six officers and a non-uniformed official to oversee road safety procedures prior to stopping members of the public in their vehicles.

As a result of one of the operations carried out last week, a suspicious vehicle driven by a 44-year-old Venezuelan was stopped and found to contain cocaine ready for sale and a significant amount of cash. The suspect was handed over to the Guardia Civil and a further 800 grammes of cocaine was found in his home.
