Newsdesk PALMA council has this year accepted the invitation extended to the Balearic capital by the Mayors of Paris (Bertrand Delanoe); Brussels (Freddy Thielmans); and Rome (Walter Veltroni), to celebrate the “European Day of the Neighbour” on Tuesday, according to council sources. These same council sources said that the Rambla in Palma will, at 7.30pm on Tuesday, host an event to commemorate this European Day with the Second Cycle of Popular Dances show. During this there will be a performance by the group Balls i Tonades from Majorca, where the public will be invited to join in. Some years ago various towns in the European Union decided to lend their support to this original event, as this is a day where citizens can meet with the objective of sharing a social gathering. It is also a day to share and enjoy cultural and popular acts. The celebration of the “European Day of the Neighbour” has become a mass European movement. Because of this initiative, in 2005 more than 4.5 million people from 13 countries met. These meetings took place in more than 460 European towns such as Paris, Rome, Brussels, Athens, Luxembourg, Dublin and Lisbon.
