SATURDAY sees the welcome return of Sandy Phillips to Sa Taronja in Andratx, with another one-act play in the Reduced Womanhood series written by Michael Corbidge. Granny Iguana knows that it is no easy being old! But as Sandy Phillips explains, “this is a glamorous granny, everything may be dropping southwards but with a little help from her friends, the tinctures and potions that clutter her life, she is determined to keep everything skyward!” However, her efforts are scuppered by her inquisitive straight-talking grand-daughter who, quite innocently uncovers the real granny in hiding! Sandy Phillips trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and worked in the theatre and television in the UK for nine years before moving east with her husband. In Singapore, she became Head of the school of drama at La Salle SIA College while her acting career developed. Since then, she has appeared in more than 30 different productions in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, the UK and Spain, and also found time to direct Singapore's most popular TV sitcom, PCK Ltd. Michael Corbidge trained at the Bristol Old Vic and is an award-winning actor, playwrite, poet, author and director. He wrote a series of one-woman plays under the title Reduced Womanhood especially for Sandy Phillips. Granny Iguana can be seen at Sa Taronja in Andratx at 8.30pm on Saturday, June 3.
