THE Balearic ministry of commerce and industry will be promoting local food products and fashions at a fashion show in New York next Thursday and Friday.

A ministry spokesman said that it was part of the Ibexport programme to promote local products abroad.
The fashion show will be held at the Altmann building, showing the latest designs in clothing, costume jewellery, footwear and accessories. Designers include Tolo Crespí, Xisco Caimari, Teresa Andreu, Anabel Ribas, José Miró, Magines, Sebastiá Pons and Tania del Viejo. There will also be fashions by students from the local design schools.
The spokesman said that 90 firms - 36 from Majorca, 26 from Minorca and the rest from Ibiza-Formentera - will be featured in the fashion show.
On June 10, the New York Historical Society will host a programme of music and dance, during which local food products and wines will be served. The dishes will be prepared by Bartomeu Trias, who will combine current trends in cookery with traditional recipes. Artists will include soprano Isabel Rosello, baritone Lluis Sintes, pianist Amparo Cruells and dancers Juan Luis Cruz and Mayka Barrientos.
The ministry has invited the New York authorities, media, importers, distributers and representatives of the Spanish Embassy to the events.
