Majorcan and Basque Country fair

MAJORCA is teaming up with the Basque Country this weekend to hold a Traditional Country Sports Fair in the Parc de les Estacions opposite Plaza Espanya in Palma.

The theme of the event is “two different peoples, two cultures, two languages but with one obejctive” and is the first of its kind being celebrated on the island. The Sports Fair will be a public exhibition of the country practices dating back generations which have become embedded in regional culture. To the background of traditional music and attendance by giant Majorcan folk figures, there will be displays of rock lifting, tree trunk hacking with giant saws, wood chopping, Majorcan sling shot, and performances by Basque poetry and song improvisers, and Balearic storytellers. There will be plenty of cider on tap.
