Palma.—The Balearic Symphony Orchestra has announced that it is going to take industrial action in protest over not having been paid last month.
In an official communiqué, the orchestra's works committee stated that the concert will not be performing on the second and third nights of the Aida Opera at the Teatro Principal on June 28 and 30.

Instead, the orchestra will be offering free protest concerts in the Plaza Mayor coinciding with the two opera performances.
There are other issues which the orchestra is angry about, the lack of information about the Bellver Castle concerts this summer and no information about the programme for 2013-2014.

Neither has this year's budget been agreed and that should have been signed off on in October of last year nor have the musicians received any news about whether they will receive their double pay at the end of this month.

It would appear that the authorities have failed to deliver what they promised and the future of the orchestra, yet again, remains in the balance.
