THE Sant Joan Festivals in Palma will begin tomorrow night at 8.30pm and will offer a good mix of music, fear and magic to all those who are planning to attend. Palma City Council has organised the “Sant Joan Night” for tomorrow evening which will carry on into the early hours of Friday morning.
All the events will take place at the Ciudad Jardin beach in Palma.
The “Sant Joan Night” will start at 8.30pm with a musical performance by the Free Style Funk Foundation”, said a spokesperson from Palma City Council.
This will be followed by another band, the trio Polvorosa, who will keep the crowds entertained and dancing.
The Mayor of Palma, Catalina Cirer, will be lighting the bonfire at 10.15pm. This event will mark the official start of the San Joan Night.
The traditional Correfoc will start at 10.45pm. This event is not for the faint hearted or those prone to nightmares, as it consists of demons and monsters carrying and throwing fireworks and sparklers through the bustling crowds. However, many do enjoy the amazing atmosphere of this event and comment that they have never seen anything similar.
Following the demons, the actor Manuel Barceló will play the Master of Ceremonies for the Enchantment, which will take place at midnight.
The festivites will end with music by the band 08001, which is a group from Barcelona, who mix together many different styles of music.
Palma City Council is asking all residents to use, where possible, public transport on this night.
The number 15 bus route has additional buses to Ciudad Jardin on Thursday evening, and for those who want to enjoy the evening without the stress of traffic jams and parking problems, this is the ideal solution. Palma City Council has recommended that all drivers leave their vehicles at the Carrefour carpark in Coll d'en Rabassa, which can be used especially for this occasion.
