ALTHOUGH local residents groups and businesses in Santa Catalina had said there was “massive” opposition to Palma City Council's plans to redesign Calle Fabrica, there was little support for the street protest led yesterday by the Es Raval neighbourhood association.

The core of the complaints against Mayor Aina Calvo's programme for making Santa Catalina more accessible is that she had allegedly promised that no works would start without consensus having been reached with people who lived and worked in the area and has failed to do so.

Meanwhile, the President of the Santa Catalina Restaurauteurs Association, Toni Mas, said that the majority of the people who took part in the demonstration were not from Santa Catalina at all, claiming that only a “small part” of residents and businesses were against the reform work.
