New plan to cut accidents at work

THE Balearic government has approved a plan to reduce the number of accidents in the work place, particularly in the construction sector.
The plan, which covers 2006 and 2007, has specific indications for the construction sector, which has the highest number of serious accidents, and in the hotel, restaurant and night club sector, which has the highest number of accidents, although most of them do not have serious consequences. The plan includes an investigation into the cause of the accidents, which are generally attributed to poor safety procedures, and lack of on the job training. The plan was drawn up by the labour ministry, with the collaboration of managment and the unions.
