PALMA
THE Balearic government has this week set up a free information phone line for tourists so that all concerns about current happenings in the Islands can be answered.

The move comes in the wake of the confusion felt by the tourist community after the ETA bomb attack in Palmanova last week which left two Guardia Civil officers dead. A government spokesman said the helpline was to provide people with a clear account of events in order not only to dispel unfounded fears, but to clarify distorted information about news in the Balearics which might be generated by the press in the tourists' home countries. Enquirers will also be able to get answers to questions related to health and safety.

The telephone number which is also accessible from outside Spain by putting 0034 in front, is 900 900 365 and is operative from Mondays to Saturdays from 10am to 6pm.

The service is available in English, German, Castillian Spanish and Catalan.
