A van driver and his assistant had a lucky escape when their bread-delivery van went up in flames as it was being driven along the Inca motorway at 1.30pm yesterday. Problems started One kilometre past Alcampo, before reaching the Festival Park turning, the driver noted that the engine was heating up, so he decided to park on the hard shoulder. The two men got out of the van, which in a matter of minutes was engulfed in flames. Palma firemen arrived almost immediately to tackle the blaze and the Guardia Civil handled traffic to prevent accidents, as the motorway was covered in smoke. The van was destroyed in the fire and the owner said it was a complete write-off.
