Palma.—Tens of thousands of Britons are likely to head out on a European holiday during the Olympics, especially Londoners, according to various reports released in the United Kingdom yesterday.

According to travelmatch.uk, many Britons are going to avoid London during the 2012 games which start on July 27 and end on August 12.
Not only is it because of the high rates hotels in the capital will be charging, it is also because of the thought of the city being packed with tens of thousands of sports fans from across the world.

According to the travel company, early market research suggests that many people will be looking for a range of cheap holidays to destinations like Majorca.

Data released earlier this month shows that many London hotels will be asking for almost three times the amount they usually charge during the Games. “The Olympics are a perfect opportunity for people to get away to sunnier climes,” Alex Francis of travelmatch said. “The tremendous increase in the price of hotel rooms in the capital will attract many Brits overseas to destinations which have more reasonable hotel rates. The cost of just one night in London during this period would pay for an entire week on an all inclusive holiday in Spain,” he added.

What is more, the dates for the Games fall right at the beginning of the peak summer season here in the Balearics, so scores of Britons can watch the games in the peaceful sunshine.
