With over 200 people reportedly losing their lives on the roads for failing to wear a seat belt, the Traffic authorities in Spain decided to start a new awareness campaign yesterday which will run until Sunday, aimed at those who still believe wearing it is not important.
Reports from 2011, the last year when final results were published, showed the number of fatalities in accidents on city roads amounted to 41% (196), a percentage much higher than outside the city centres, 22% (31).

This shows the use of a seat belt in the city is much less, even though studies show that it reduces by a fifth the possibility of ending up seriously injured or dead.
