Palma.—Joyce Johnson cared for her husband Graham selflessly until he sadly passed away earlier this year. She had given no thought to her own health and a nagging knee problem escalated rapidly into a very serious condition. Bravely, she consented to the only resolution to the problem and underwent serious surgery to amputate the lower part of her leg.
Now her life can begin again, but for this she needs full mobility – and this is where Andrea Brenner Smith, director of the Bay entertainers and Big Mo (Maureen Rowland), the earth mother of the ex-pats went into overdrive. The Princess Diane Hotel in Palma Nova became the venue for ‘The Dinner Dance’ Super Fund Raiser with one aim, to get Joyce the best prosthetic leg available and the ‘wizziest’ wheel chair around. Local businesses and friends donated wonderful prizes for the fantastic raffle – the highlight of the evening. Meals, beauty treatments, wines, chocolates and much more, including an enormous croquet set, were among the prizes – the latter was won by the lawnless Mo, and was offered up for auction and raised a further 50 plus euros.
The Bays subsidised the evening generously and the raffle and auction raised a fabulous 1,100€. Everyone sends their love to Joyce and looks forward to seeing her charging around Palma in her new electric wheel chair.
