Palma.—It is an inescapable fact that the railway station in Inca has become very dirty. Just one look is needed to realise that the premises are semi-abandoned and that those responsible have stopped any kind of maintenance. It's also clear that there are works going on at the station but no-one seems to be doing anything.

Waste paper bins, those that are still standing, are overflowing with plastic bottles, cans, paper and all manner of litter whilst other bins have simply been tipped over on their side leaving the contents spilled out over the platform surface. It is weeks now since anyone has swept the station and the floor is becoming black with dirt. What can be seen in Inca is true of stations right up and down the train line from Palma to Inca, and then on up the branch lines to Manacor and Sa Pobla.

A cry for help
Since the new Partido Popular government has come to power, SFM hasn't put any new contracted cleaners out to work. Managing Director José Ramón Orta explained yesterday that the previous Socialist coalition government should have put a new bid for the clearning work out to public tender but it failed to do so on time. Orta is planning to liaise with other local councils in municipalities where stations are located asking that they meanwhile help with cleaning the platforms.

Inca council meanwhile has managed to get its municipal brigade to clean up the local bus station and the drive-through tunnels which link the old part of the town with the suburb of Crist Rei on two occasions but the railway station remains untouched. The Mayor of Inca, Rafel Torres met Orta yesterday to discuss the situation.
