Local commerce fights the recession

Small businesses in the Balearics are booming in terms of sales and job creation, a report by the National Statistics Institute confirmed yesterday.

Palma.—Balearic small businesses saw takings rise by over three percent in August compared to the same period last year, bucking the national trend which has seen the majority of small business sector suffer a decrease of 4.2%.

Employment in the trade went up by 1%, while in the rest of the country, numbers were not so positive, with a decline of almost two percent.
