STAFF REPORTER THE Monaco Yacht Show, in which the Balearic nautical industry has been taking part, has come to a close, the regional government said yesterday. The trade fair, said a spokesman, was essentially geared to the luxury end of the market and was a chance for boat designers, builders, sellers and specialist services to get together to promote their skills.

The Balearic Ports Authority had a high profile at the Yacht Show, marketing the facilities and services offered by each of the islands. The Authority was backed up by a strong presence of representatives of nautical companies operating in the Balearics.

The Yacht Show had been running since last Wednesday. As well as the Balearics Ports Authority, Puerto Adriano and Marina de Ibiza also had their own stands at the fair.

The Balearic government, through the Ports Authority and the Chamber of Commerce which embraces Industry and Nautical businesses has established its position in the yachting world through appearances at international Boat Shows. Apart from Monaco, Balearic stands are also erected in Paris, Genova and Düsseldorf. The government is keen to attract nautical tourism to the islands, not least because visitors from all countries who engage in yachting are likely to be higher than average holiday spenders.
