THE Catalan cardiologist Valenti Fuster, one of the most prestigious heart specialists in the world, will open the Balearic Cardiology Society's 5th Congress on Friday. This Congress will bring together about 100 doctors in Palma to analyse and debate the latest advances in cardiology.
Fuster, who has worked for more than 20 years in the United States, where he directs the Cardiovascular Institute of the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, will take charge of the first session of this meeting, which is the conference “A different vision of atherosclerosis disease through current magnetic resonance technology images”. Sources at the Balearic Cardiology Society highlighted that Fuster is and has been the President of the World Federation of Cardiology, of the American Association of the Heart and a member of the Institute for Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences, among other entities. He is, as well, President of the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research which has its headquarters in Madrid, and whose objective is to promote biomedical research in Spain and to improve the cardiovascular health of the population.
