PALMA
IF a snap election was called in the Balearics, the centre right Partido Popular would continue in opposition, losing at least one of its 29 seats, while the Socialists would retain control by picking up between two and three new seats, according to yesterday's results of a Gadeso opinion poll.

The opinion poll was carried out amidst the political crisis in the Council of Majorca caused by the decision of three Majorcan Unionist Council Members to withdraw their support from the governing Socialist-led coalition and its results point to the Majorcan Unionist Party and the far left Bloc group being the big losers.

According to the results of the opinion poll, neither the Bloc nor the UM “are enjoying their best moments and face the threat of losing their parliamentary representation.” The Gadesa poll has also revealed that the two biggest problems rocking the Partido Popular are its internal differences and lack of solid leadership in the Balearics.
