PALMA
THE first Spanish translation of Diseases in Minorca, which was written by the famous Scottish physician and medical doctor George Cleghorn between 1744 and 1749 and published in London in 1751, is going to be presented by Dr. Alfonso Ballesteros, the President of the Balearic Royal Academy of Medicine, in Palma tomorrow evening.

Dr. Cleghorn, one of the cofounders of the Royal Medical Society of Edinburgh, was appointed surgeon to the 22d Regiment of Foot, which was then stationed in Minorca under the command of General St Clair, when he was aged just nineteen.

During the thirteen years he spent on the island, he applied himself most diligently to his improvement in medical and anatomical studies and during the final five years on the island, decided to write a book about his medical findings and experiences. In his book, Dr. Cleghorn also wrote about new applications of medical treatments and the medical world was indebted to Dr. Cleghorn for his work.
