THE Guardia Civil confirmed yesterday that they have arrested Abdelwahab A., a 27-year-old Moroccan on charges of holding his wife against her will for two years at their home in Sa Pobla, of domestic violence and of threatening behaviour.
Through close links with the town's Moroccan community, the case was brought to the attention of the Guardia Civil who began inquires. They discovered that the accused had been keeping his wife locked up inside the house, threatening her if she wanted to go out, and denying her medical attention. She reportedly suffered continued abuse and was kept in inhuman conditions.
When interrogated by police, Abdelwahab A. was found to be an ultra-conservative who wanted to keep his wife firmly out of the sights of other men. She has since been given medical and psychological attention.
