AN interesting collection of privately-owned antiques is going on show today on the top floor of the Corte Inglés department store in the Avenidas in Palma.

The antiques have come from the Ayamans Palace in Lloseta, a building of exceptional architectural interest in the town whose origins date back to the 13th century. It was the residence of the Togores family for 700 years but then passed to the hands of different proprietors throughout the 20th century. All of them, however, maintained the architectural heritage of the exterior façade.

The exhibition, which has been launched to celebrate 15 years of the Corte Ingles being in business, consists of a selection of historic pieces. It includes some oil paintings on canvas by Spanish artists Casanovas, Madrazo, J.M. Marques Puig and Ramon Perez Barril completed in the first half of the 20th century.

Other items on display are alabaster sculptures, miniatures from Asia and pairs of tusks made with thin sheets of bone.
