THE fifth Furniture, Decoration and Interior Design Fair, MODEC 2006, opens its doors today in the Fairs precinct near the GESA building in Palma.
It will have 44 stands representing 84 companies. This is less than the last edition of the fair, which took place in 2004, when there were 55 stands representing 105 companies.
Running until Sunday, the fair will be a showcase for the latest ideas of a “very dynamic sector which is in continuous development,” a spokesman for the organisers said yesterday. It will include household equipment and furniture, lighting and decorative elements.
The spokesman said that the sectors most represented in this edition are furniture (27), decoration and interior design (18), household equipment (13), lighting (9), services (8) and official organisations (1).
Most of the exhibitors come from the Balearics, although there are some from other parts of Spain: Alicante; Barcelona; Madrid; and Vizcaya; and from other countries such as Germany (2), Belgium (1), Italy (19), France (1), Norway (3) and Sweden (2).
The organisers say that the exhibitors in MODEC will present “the best interior designs, giving a greater incentive to the visitor to find out more about the trends of interior design”.
With this in mind, the space allocated to the Official College of Decorators stands out. It has been designed in collaboration with other entities and design schools.
Running side by side with the fair will be a conference, on October 26 at 7pm about the “Trends and possible scenarios of design”. Marcelo Leslaby with lead this discussion.
