ULTIMO bra tycoon Michelle Mone came to the rescue when a planeload of 169 Scots were stranded in Majorca at the weekend, even trying to charter a plane. She was among a planeload of passengers who were stranded for 18 hours after easyJet cancelled a flight from Palma to Glasgow.
She told the Daily Record that passengers were left with no food or water for hours.
She said: ”My husband Michael and I spent two hours trying to get a plane but were unsuccessful. “We bought food and water for as many people as we could because many people had spent all of their euros.” The Scottish businesswoman was returning from her villa in Puerto Pollensa with husband Michael, daughters Rebecca, 13, and Bethany, six, and son Declan, nine. The delay was attributed to technical problems.
The flight was due to leave Palma shortly after midnight on Sunday, and passengers did not arrive in Glasgow until 8.30 on the Sunday night.
According to reports, easyJet said they provided accommodation and £20 food vouchers after it became clear that the flight would have to be cancelled. Michelle Mone is the founder and co-owner of MJM International Ltd, which she started in November 1996 with her husband Michael. It was based on a simple concept: giving today's women what they want.
The company started with the Ultimo bra and now extends to a number of very successful lingerie brands which have been modelled by the likes of Helena Christensen, Penny Lancaster and Rachel Hunter. Mone was Business Woman of the Year in 2000 and the following year, Prince Charles invited her to join the Board of Directors for the Prince's Scottish Youth Board.
