Palma.—The Tourist Spending Monitoring Board (Egatur) also confirmed yesterday that since January this year, the accumulated tourist spend in the Balearics is 8'510 million euros, 7.9 percent more than during the same period in 2010.

In September, said Egatur, the Balearics was the region of the country with the highest share of the national tourist spend, equivalent to 25.8 percent of the 5'433 million euros which the country received from the tourist industry last month.

In terms of the accumulated spend so far this year, the Balearics is in second position behind Catalonia.
More than 60 percent of the tourist spend in the Balearics last month came from German and British tourists.
The average spent by each tourist in the Balearics last month stood at 945 euros and the spend on a daily basis averaged out at 107 euros, a year-on-year downturn of 4.7 and 5.2 percent respectively in comparison with September 2010. From the start of the year to date, the average spend by foreign visitors has been 904 euros and 109 euros daily, which also reflects declines - of 2.3 and 2 percent respectively.

Across Spain as a whole, the United Kingdom still proved to be the key client country from January to September this year, spending 8'548 million euros - 1.4 percent more than in the same period last year, but the average individual spend of 770 euros and the daily spend of 86 euros were downturns of 7.1 and 2.5 respectively.

Although it was the Canary Islands where between January and September tourist spend grew the most (13.1%), the Balearics and Catalonia were leaders in terms of absolute income figures.
