Alcudia.—Technicians from the Balearic Nature Protection Institute (Ibanat) said that the fire was officially declared under control at lunchtime yesterday. The regional Environment ministry said that in collaboration with land-based brigades, water-carrying helicopters were still continuing to bombard areas of agricultural land where fire threatened to flare up again.

The blaze had started at around 7.30pm Monday evening near the Ma-3431 road between Muro and Can Picafort.
The ministry said that the fire had not affected the area of the nature reserve frequented by visitors nor damaged forested areas.
A high risk fire alert will be in place on Majorca until 1st November.
