Palma.—Minister Josep Ignasi Aguiló described the 2012 budget as “extremely realistic”. He said his department had been working since August on projected public spending for next year, and that each ministry had been analysed “with a fine tooth comb” to see exactly how they are going to spend government money. Aguiló said that contrary to suggestions a week ago that he would delay the presentation of the budget, he will now do so based on regional government economic growth estimates.

The Minister pointed out that he will unveil the budget even though Central Government's new Financial Policy Board has not yet met to determine growth at a national level.

Balearic President José Ramón Bauzá confirmed yesterday that in order to fulfill his government's “commitments,” the 2012 budget will be presented to Parliament on Monday 31st October. Bauzá said that he did not wish a situation to develop as had happened last year with the previous Socialist coalition government where they simply rolled over the 2010 budget into 2011.
