BALEARIC nature protection agency Ibanat is pruning the pine trees along both sides of the road which leads down to Portal Vells as a measure to protect against the spread of forest fire. Plans are to clean out an area of some 15 hectares from the beginning of the Portal Vells road, past where it crosses the Palmanova road and as far as the golf course but in phases. Currently about two of these have been cleared. Choking vegetation will be stripped out by Ibanet personnel with the aid of two machines.
