PALMA
THE Majorcan fishing fleet, currently made up of 34 trawlers, is to stop going to sea one day a week as of now in order to force up the price of fresh fish in the wholesale market place.

Fishermen claim that the prices they are receiving for their hard-earned catches are very low, and that combined with the biting effect of soaring fuel prices on their income this year, their very livelihoods are in danger.

Regional Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Mercé Amer made the announcement yesterday during a visit to Palma's fresh fish market on which she was accompanied by Fishing department director, Patricia Arbona.
