PALMA
PRESIDENT of the Council of Majorca, Francina Armengol, announced yesterday that it is closing the file on an application to develop a golf course and leisure facilities at Son Baco, outside the east Majorcan town of Campos, saying that yet more facilities of this nature “do not represent the needs of the Island.”

Accompanied by Antonio Hernando, Socialist Secretary for Municipal Policy, Armengol was speaking yesterday on regional district and island council financing. She said that she had come to the decision following a recent meeting with the Planning Committee of the Council of Majorca in which agreement had been reached that the 65 hectare golf course and its associated leisure development “wasn't what was needed by the people of Majorca.”
