PALMA
GUARDIA Civil widened their search for two missing women yesterday to two sites in Llucmajor.
Margalida Bestard disappeared whilst collecting rents in El Arenal two months ago and nothing has been seen or heard of Angeles Arroyo for eleven years. A man living in Arenal was widely believed to have been implicated in Arroyo's disappearance and spent time in prison as a result. He is also a suspect in the disappearance of Bestard.

The police investigation yesterday was based on two fronts: one was the rubbish tip at the Bellavista housing estate where officers undertook a search aided by dogs; and calle Salud. At number 33 in this street, there is a block of flats ten floors high. The key suspect was the owner of one of the flats here and he sold it three months ago. In front of the entrance to the building is a well measuring one metre wide and 15 metres deep, and there is another well of the same dimensions in a room inside the garage area. This second well had been blocked up so that it is only two metres deep and builders rubble has been thrown on top. Water which was present in both wells was pumped out to enable officers to search inside. Results proved negative.
