MIGUEL Ferrer was sworn in as the new Balearic Minister for Tourism yesterday promising to dedicate himself to steering the region's primary industry forward and out of the recession.

The former Mayor of Alcudia, and ex-Secretary General of the Majorca Unionist Party, said that he intends to continue following the UM's political line installed by his two predecessors Miguel Angel Nadal and Francesc Buils over the past two-and-a -half years.

During his induction ceremony at the Consolat de Mar government headquarters, Ferrer said that he intends to introduce “realistic” tourism policies but also called on the local tourist industry to “unite and cooperate.” “At times like this, we need to be working together and, providing we do that, we will all move forward,” he said.
Ferrer stressed the importance of all of the government institutions and Island Councils following a similar strategy while also listening to what the tourist industry is saying. “This is going to be fundamental,” he added.
