Palma.—Last night the Swedish  community of Majorca celebrated Santa Lucia, the  annual candlelit  procession  with girls and boys clad in white full-length gowns singing Christmas carols in various languages as they paraded from Plaza Mayor to Plaza Cort where a typical Swedish Christmas market had been set up.
Alongside Midsummer, the Lucia celebrations represent one of the foremost cultural traditions in Sweden, with their clear reference to life in the peasant communities of old: darkness and light, cold and warmth.
