Madrid/Palma.— The five mountain refuges belonging to the Council of Majorca have managed to clear an outstanding 600,000 euro debt it has been burdoned with since taking over from the former Socialist-led government.
The main factor behind the improvement in the finances was that the number of people using the mountain refuges has grown by over 41 percent in just two years.
From 17,836 to over 25,000. New criteria when it comes to buying food products by the refuges alongside better use of energy resources and working together, were also some of the measures the refuges took to face the financial hole they were in.
