Palma.— “We are about to see the end of the crisis”, the President of the Balearic Construction Association, Manuel Gomez proclaimed yesterday.
Gomez revealed that last year, public and private investment on the local construction industry was 11 percent up on the previous, although the number of new jobs being created only grew by 34.1 percent and the self employed sector is still struggling.
Gomez hailed the fact that for the first time the construction industry, the biggest victim of the recession, is witnessing investment since 2007, but admitted that he is disappointed that it is not  creating new jobs at a similar rate.
“Over the past six years, 30,000 people have lost their jobs in the construction sector in the Balearics,” Gomez said.
