Palma.—The annual Hotel Prince Index carried out and published by Hoteles.com yesterday revealed that average hotel rates in Majorca and Ibiza are some of the 50 most expensive in the World.

The Hotels.com Hotel Price Index is a regular report on hotel prices in major destinations across the world.

The HPI is based on bookings made on Hotels.com sites and prices shown are those actually paid by customers per room per night, rather than advertised rates.

According to the report, average hotel rates in Majorca rose by 16 percent last year to 113 euros per night while in Ibiza, rates rose by 11 percent to 141 euros per night.

But, Majorca and Ibiza are not the only Spanish locations in the top 50 most expensive destinations in the table. They are joined by Marbella, where room rates rose by 13 percent last year to 128 euros per night and Barcelona where room rates have risen by six percent to an average of 114 euros per night.

Average hotel rates in Majorca are higher than Tokyo (98 euros) and popular Asian destinations such as Bali (88 euros) and also Bangkok (63 euros).

With regards to the island’s European competitors, Athens is cheaper (79 euros) as is Dublin (88 euros) for a city break, the market which Palma wants to break into.
