Palma.—The poll on how happy citizens were with the quality of the democracy, institutions and society in general in the region in 2013 was given a 3.3 percent rating, a slight decline from the previous year (3.5 percent.) The biggest fall registered was on how satisfactory those who took part in the poll were with the general performance of the different political parties.

Given the results (a decline of 14 percent), the response, was little.

Alexandre Forcades president of the institution said the situation could get even worse in the future unless there are significant changes in the current political system. "The general public is not happy with the parties and politicians and we must find a solution to fix that.

"The public opinion and political parties are on two opposite ends right now, and it’s impossible to move forward," Forcades added.

"We can not beat the recession unless we sit down and think long and hard about how we are going to change this."

Forcades also warned that "more protests and social unrest are a strong possibility", given how hard government budget cuts have affected some Balearic families.

Gonzalo Adan coordinator behind Cercle’s poll explained the current government should be concerned because polls show the support for opposition parties is slowly showing signs of growth.

"This is the lowest point ever in terms of public opinion regarding those who represent them," Adan said.

"Political parties will have to change radically from now on."
