REGULAR readers of the newspaper will be aware of the growing unhappiness amongst holiday makers with the island’s car hire companies, especially those at Palma airport.
We have received a series of letters over the issue and yesterday, the topic went viral on the Bulletin Facebook page with a lively debate with the car rental companies coming out as the losers.
Granted, not all are being accused of offering a poor and slow service and “rip off” extras, but the vast majority appear to be hitting holiday makers in their pockets with the full/empty tank catch which many rental companies seem to be cashing in on - and other extras.
There were widespread complaints about the length of time  visitors are being made to wait for their cars.
A number of people said they’ve had to spend more time in the queue for their hire car than they did on the plane from Gatwick.
And, with the airport being the first port of call for people coming on holiday to Majorca, that is where everything should be running smoothly so everyone gets a good immediate impression of the island and the quality of the services offered.
In a number of posts, there were calls for the tourism authorities to get involved, but as we who live here know, that is very unlikely to happen.
What happened to the customer comes first and is always right?
