THE Palmanova and Magalluf Hotel Association is demanding that more Calvia beaches are floodlit at night in an effort to curb a growing crime wave. The hoteliers met with senior officers from the Guardia Civil earlier this week and they called for the Palmanova beaches to be illuminated in a similar way as Magalluf beach which is now floodlit at night. The hoteliers also called on the Guardia Civil to introduce more patrols in Magalluf especially Punta Ballena, where there have been a number of incidents this summer.
Just last week police arrested a gang of Romanians who had been preying on un suspecting tourists on the beach at night.
Local residents in Magalluf have claimed that the beach has become like a “battle front” at night with numerous incidents. There are fears that it could spread to neighbouring beaches as well.
