Hundreds of Palma taxi drivers protested yesterday from the industrial estate next to the airport to the promenade at Arenal against illegal competition ranging from “pirate cabs” to the latest sensation in the Playa de Palma, the rickshaw taxi. The cabbies called for all types of illegal competition to be stamped out. They claim that their livelihood is being threatened by illegal competition. The cabbies say that they operate within the realms of the law while others were clearly flouting the law and putting lives at risk on the island.
