President Armengol announced to parliament today that the national finance minister, Cristóbal Montoro, has been in contact with her government regarding the convening of a bilateral commission to consider the financing of the Balearics and statutory investments.

Armengol and the regional finance minister, Catalina Cladera, assured the leader of the El Pi party, Jaume Font, that the government plans to spend in a better way, not spend more, and to be more efficient without making cuts. The president added that the objective is to get the government of Spain to be one for the Balearics, and so the bilateral commission will re-negotiate the special economic regime for the Balearics and the statutory investments.

In the debate on finance, the president said that the 8,995 million euros of debt left behind by the Bauzá Partido Popular government proved that “austerity policies and cuts did not serve to balance the public accounts.”
